My book ‘Little Shark Lulu is Sleeping’ officially swam out into the world this month!!!!!
I had the pleasure of celebrating the launch of our book with both authors (Josie Montano and Dr Charlotte Birkmanis) and the Publisher (David Reiter) from IP Kids in Brisbane on 9 October at the Garden City Library. It was a brilliant event and we were honoured to have multiple award winning author, Michael Gerard Bauer officially launch the book. It was beyond wonderful to all be in the same room, as we are all based in different cities. We had a panel discussion and Josie read the book to a hugely excited audience. It was so sweet seeing all the little faces light up and eagerly ‘ssshhhh-ing’ the noisy sea creatures.
We had a wonderful turn out at our Sydney book launch on the weekend at Harry Hartog Marrickville. A HUGE thank you to the staff who helped make the event so successful. I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever public reading of ‘Little Shark Lulu is Sleeping’. It was a an absolute joy to see little faces light up as we turned the pages. The kids also had fun looking for Remy on every page. Remy is Lulu’s toy and also a sucker fish.
Charlotte also hosted a launch in Perth, where she read the book to a large crowd at a nautical themed restaurant - how cool! Unfortunately we couldn’t all be there, but I hear the event went swimmingly (couldn’t help myself).
Look out for more readings of our book on my instagram or Josie and Charltote’s as we all have a few lined up.
Inspiration and tips from other illustrators on substack
Reels can take a long time to make and I know a lot of us are always wondering what to post on instagram. Here’s some tips on how to make quick and easy reels from Katie Stack.
I’d say without doubt October is the busiest month for Instagram drawing prompts. It’s so hard to figure out which ones to do and if you should make time to do them at all. My favorite part of doing them is interacting with other like-minded people on social media, and also looking at all the beautiful artwork that gets posted. This month Jennifer Jamieson discusses “Why should I bother with art challenges?”
And if you are looking for a drawing prompt, why not try this one from Adam Ming #drawingunderinfluence
In my next newsletter I will answer a question alongside other illustrators from illoguild.

So happy for this amazing start Lulu got ) Congratulations! 🥳 You look lovely and what a creative idea with the restaurant!
